Nishant Jayaswal and Manik Aggarwal of IIT Kharagpur Business Club recently made India proud by winning the Marketing Challenge at the prestigious Salvoy Business Game in which more than 1,200 people across 25 nationalities participate. It is organized annually by the Solvay Brussels School of Economics and Management in Belgium.

Nishant and Manik partnered up with four other students from Belgium event to participate in the event. In the final round, they competed with about 400 people.

Another team from IIT KGP Business Club (comprising Dhruva Ratanpura and Murtaza Phalasiya) were runner ups in the Negotiation Challenge of the same event.

The six types of challenges that the Solvoy Business Game sets up include:

  1. Online Challenge: Conducted online, it is based around strategic decision-making skills.
  2. Marketing Challenge (won by Nishant and Manik): Involves developing a marketing campaign with a 10-minute presentation.
  3. Strategy Challenge: Asks you to develop a long-term strategy for a firm based on real-time facts, figures and information that is provided.
  4. Negotiation Challenge (in which Dhruva and Murtaza were runner-ups): You have to make a deal with another team by coming up an ideal price to sell or buy a company, based on real figures.
  5. Pitch Challenge: Where you prepare and present a concise and information-rich pitch on the given topic.
  6. Eloquence Challenge: The best-scoring teams are invited on stage to participate in this final round of the game.

Nishant is in the third-year of Biotechnology Engineering course while Manik is in the third-year of Agriculture and Food Engineering at the IIT. They were given the task to change the shape of the compressed cans developed by Unilever to create a different brand image.

Many IITians opt to do MBA and enter the word of business after they complete their course and the Business Club at IIT KGP hopes to hone them in the right direction.
