Always remember, that the direction of electric field is the direction of force experienced by a positive charge when placed in the electric field. Also, the direction of electric field is opposite to the direction of force experienced by a negative charge.
But at the same time, we know that like charges repel each other. This means that, to take an electron towards another stationary electron, we need to apply some external force. And, the electrostatic force that the stationary electron applies on the moving electron is directed opposite to the direction of motion of the moving electron. So, the electric field, is directed towards the motion of the moving electron.
