Gold leaf electroscope is used to detect the presence of charge on a body. The body is touched on the metal terminal of the electroscope which is connected to two gold leafs by a rod.The charge from the body is transferred to the gold leafs which move apart from each other as like charges repel each other. The charge can also be transferred to the gold leafs by electrostatic induction by just bringing the charged body near the terminal.
