Five balls marked a to e are suspended using separate threads. Pairs (b, c) and (d, e) show electrostatic repulsion while pairs (a, b), (c, e) and (a, e) show electrostatic attraction. The ball marked a must be 1) +ve charged 2)-ve charged 3)uncharged 4)All of the above

In the pairs given,  (a, e) should not be attracting, they should be repelling..
Correction...

let us ignore the magnitude of charges and look at the sign of the charges.
b = c                      d = e                   a = - b
c = - e                   a = e

a = -b = -c = e = d

From the above we can establish the relations among the charges (sign) .
Charge  a can be positive or negative.   Once it is known, the signs of other charges will be known.
