A block of mass m having charge q is placed on smooth horizontal table and is connected to a wall through an unstressed spring of spring constant k . A horizontal electric field is switched on. Find the amplitude of the resulting SHM on the block.

Since you are sure that it is SHM.
I ll find the Amplitude.

$Eq-kx=ma\\=>Eq-kx=0 \, for\, a=0\\=>x=Eq/k$

Here you can see in the first expression that acceleration is proportional to -x that's why it is SHM

Thanks & Regards

Dear student,
$Eq-kx=ma\\=>Eq-kx=0 \, for\, a=0\\=>x=Eq/k$
a = -k/m * x + Eq/m
Since, a is directly proportional to – x hence, it is SHM.

Hope it helps.
