AT DISTANCES MUCH LARGER THAN THE SEPERATION OF TWO CHARGES FORMING A DIPOLE,EL.FIELD FALLS OFF.WHY?

In a Dipole the distance between the charges is very small.For large distance at a point P(assume) both the charges are almost equidistant from that point. SO both the charges have equal and opposite effect on that point and the field falls.
