what will be the capacitance of parallel plate capacitor when one plate is smaller than the other one? plate area is a1 and a2.

The electric field will be confined to the closed system. Therefore, The capacitance will beC=\frac{A\epsilon _{0}}{d}where A= the smallest area out of a1 and a2.
