Yes MY dear Friend it is only applicable in closed body...

Because ..

According to guass theoram "Total Normal electric Induction of  any shape of closed body is equal to the algebric sum of all the charges enclosed by that suface."

Since The ELECTRIC INDUTION is present only charges in closed by any surface..

So it clear that the guass theoram is only applied in closed body......
