I always get confused with the questions dealing with capacitors with dielectric slabs. I want to know how the quantities such as capacitance, electric feild, potential vary as we go from one plate to another given that the dielectric slab is is of less thickness than the capacitor. I would be grateful if somebody can make a table showing the variation when battery is connected and when battery is disconnected. It would help in revision. Plz help:-)

Dear student,

Effect of Dielectric on Capacitance

Capacitance of Parallel Plate with a Dielectric Slab

When a dielectric slab t

due to polarisation). So,

V = E0(d - t) + Et

Capacitance of Parallel Plate with a Dielectric Slab

Clearly: C>Co
