I was in my cabin and posting online forums, when I noticed that there have been certain questions which are posted by every 5th student. These were:-

“Which chapters are most important for JEE Mains 2016?”

“Can you tell me the heavily weighted chapters to crack JEE Advance?”

“I just have one year, which chapters I should focus more?”

“Is GOC the most important chapter in JEE Mains?”

“How to study organic chemistry”

I am pretty sure these questions must have puzzled you as well at some point of time. So, today through this blog we will try to find the answers of these questions.

Chemistry though seems easy and scoring but when it comes to organic we somehow starts disliking it…isn’t it?

But this should not be the trend. If you feel that NCERT is not enough to completely explain you the concepts of organic then, I would suggest you to go for Bahal and Bahal.

This textbook by Arun Bahal and B.S. Bahal is an entrance exam centered book.

This book unlike other reference book has been written keeping in view the mindset of JEE aspirants. The concepts have been explained from beginner’s level and have been taken to the highest score in an easy to understand manner. This book will not only help you to solve organic queries but will also help you to strengthen their mechanistic approach.

The book includes many chapters but come on…you are not required to do all of them rather just the important ones… Relief!!

The chapters are:-

  • Purification of Organic Compounds
  • Composition of Organic Compound
  • Empirical and Molecular Formulae
Structure of Organic Molecules Hydroxy and Halo Acids Aromatic Amines
Organic Reactions and Their Mechanism Acid Derivatives Aryl diazonium Salts
Isomerism Esters of Organic and Inorganic Acids Phenols
Nomenclature of Organic Compounds Acetoacetic Ester and Malonic Ester Aromatic Aldehydes and Ketones
Spectroscopy Fats and Oils; Soaps and Detergents Aromatic Carboxylic Acids
Alkanes Amines Dyes: Color and Constitution
Alkenes Amino Acids and Proteins Naphthalene
Alkynes Cycloalkanes Anthracene
Alkyl Halides Ureides and Purines Heterocyclic Compounds
Organometallic Compounds Carbohydrates Alkaloids
Alcohols Aromatic Compounds Terpenes
Polyhydric Alcohols Benzene and its Homologues Synthetic Polymers
Ethers and Epoxides Effect of Substituents of Further Substitution Vitamins, Steroids and Antibiotics
Thiols and Thioethers Aromatic Halogen compounds Predicting Trends
Aldehydes and Ketones Aromatic Sulfonic Acids Road-Map Problems
Carboxylic Acids Aromatic Nitro Compounds Multistep Synthesis
Dicarboxylic Acids

Out of these soooooo many chapters the ones which are useful for you according to weightage have been highlighted.

The weightage of the organic chapters is as follows:

General Organic Chemistry – 7% Hydrocarbons – 2%
Alcohols, Phenols and Ethers – 7% Chemistry in Everyday Life – 2%
Aldehydes, Ketones and Carboxylic Acids – 5% Environmental chemistry – 1%
Halo alkanes and Halo arenes – 2% Biomolecules – 1%
Amines – 2% Polymers – 1%

Now at the end of the book you will find multiple choice questions as well for self-practice.
