IIT-Delhi’s Music Masti Brings Cheers to Slum KidsMusic is the best cure for all problems and proving this idiom correct is the bunch of IIT-Delhi students who have gone one extra musical mile to bring about changes in the lives of kids dwelling in slum areas of Delhi.

With this musical wave rising, there is a new sense of zest among kids in living in Munirka slums. IIT-Delhi students, founders of the aptly named Music Masti Program, are willing to take their initiative to a different level in coming days.

A lot of children from Munirka slums are showing great interest to this initiative helmed by a group of IIT-Delhi students. They wait eagerly for this weekend musical extravaganza.

Music Masti Program is a noble initiative especially designed to help and give direction to underprivileged kids living in slum areas. Students of the group believe that the program will help these kids showcase their talent, which otherwise gets no other means to come out.

“Music can be very liberating for these kids who have very limited access to extra-curricular activities. Many of these children are immensely talented but they need mentoring and that is what we are trying to do. We take music classes on weekends in Munirka slum,” said Sidharath Ranjan, an electrical engineering student, from IIT-Delhi.

Music Masti Program was the brainchild of Sidharth Ranjan. Most of his team members (including him) are from IIT-Delhi’s music society and the rest are from NSS unit.

“Many of these kids have multiple talents. We will teach them as much as we can. We also plan to raise funds to provide them with better training,” said Ranjan.

“We will not only train them, but also encourage them to participate in talent hunts. Who knows we might have the next musical sensation from here,” added Ranjan who has a Master’s degree in music (tabla).
