For IIT JEE Main counselling, JoSSA >is expected to conduct an online counselling process from 19th June 2023. Students need to be careful during JEE Main 2023 counselling registration as a minor mistake may mean that you lose the precious engineering seat.
Here's what you need to do:
Step 1: Register for JEE Main 2023 Counselling Session
Step 2: Make the Required Choices
While filling up the JoSAA counselling registration form 2023, you'll have to fill out details about the institutes and branches you are interested in - in order of your preference. Here's how to make your choices:
Step 3: Seat Allotment in JEE Main 2023 Counselling
Selected candidates will receive information about the seat allotted to them through SMS or email. They will have to download the letter. JoSAA and CSAB choose candidates based on their:
Step 4: Pay the JEE Main Counselling and Seat Acceptance Fee
Students must deposit the acceptance fee through the SBI Net Banking or e-Challan before the main counselling process. For General category students, this fee is INR 45,000. For reserved category students, the seat acceptance fee is INR 20,000. When it comes to JEE Advanced, you need to check if you need to pay JEE advanced counselling fee> with JoSAA.
Step 5: Report to the Allotted Institution
Once candidates deposit the fee, they must report to the allotted institution with all the required documents for the document verification process. Once their documents are verified, they are allotted provisional seats and are given provisional admission letters.
The documents candidates need to carry to the allotted engineering college are:
Other Things to Note
JEE (Joint Entrance Exam) is a national-level exam to gain admission to engineering institutes. JEE is divided into two parts: JEE Main and JEE Advanced. Since the exam is online/computer-oriented, candidates must be computer literate. JEE is one of the most challenging exams in the world. The difficulty level of the exam is increasing every year, and the number of people appearing for the exam is also increasing yearly. About 12 lakh engineering students compete for 11000 places in 23 different IITs every year.
The JEE exam is for applicants who want to work in engineering and technical studies. Furthermore, the JEE exam is a doorway to some of India's most prestigious engineering universities. Students passing the JEE Main exam can apply for admission to some of the best colleges in the country because the exam scores are accepted. Those who pass JEE Main will be able to take the JEE Advanced exam, the second round of the exam. Those who eventually succeed in JEE Advanced will be admitted to IITs. Students keen to appear for the exam and learn more must also take up JEE main counselling for the advanced level course.
The JEE Main counselling process is a method through which students are allotted engineering colleges. The process starts with students registering themselves on the official website and then choosing their preferred college and course. Students have to then appear for the document verification process and pay the seat acceptance fee. Once they have completed all these steps, they are allotted a seat in their desired college.
The JoSAA counselling process is conducted by the Joint Seat Allocation Authority for IITs, NITs, IIITs, and CFTIs. JoSAA conducts six rounds of counselling for the NIT+ system for JEE Main candidates. Usually, students who qualify for JEE Advanced exams but cannot make it to the IITs get the preference for seat allotment in the NITs through JoSAA counselling (as they have higher ranks in the JEE Main exam).
The CSAB counselling process is conducted by the Central Seat Allocation Board for all the other engineering colleges that come under the ambit of JEE Main. CSAB also conducts separate counselling procedures for state-funded technical institutes and engineering colleges in Northeast and Union Territories. These counselling sessions take place after the JoSAA's JEE Main counselling sessions.
JEE Main 2023 counselling will see JoSAA choosing candidates for around 50,822 engineering seats across 110 engineering colleges and technical institutes accepting, including 23 IITs, 31 NITs, IIEST Shibpur, 26 IIITs, and 29 GFTIs (Government Funded Technical Institutes). So, if you get a JEE Main rank under 60,000, you are likely to get a government engineering college seat under the JoSAA counselling process - provided you have chosen all courses in all engineering colleges while filling up your choices.
The 'Freeze' option means that the candidate accepts the seat and won't participate in further rounds of counselling. The 'Float' option means the candidate doesn't want to let the seat offered to him or her go but wants to participate in subsequent rounds of counselling to see if he or she can get admitted to a course or institute of higher preference. The 'Slide' option means that the candidate accepts the seat provisionally but would participate in subsequent rounds of counselling to see if he or she can get admitted to a course of higher preference in the same institute.
