Introduction

Established under the West Bengal Secondary Education Act of 1950, the West Bengal Board of Secondary Education was inaugurated by the then Governor of West Bengal, Dr.K.N.Katju on 3rd May 1951. The main functions of the board are to regulate, control and develop secondary education of the State and to conduct the school examinations properly.

The board started its journey in the year 1951 with over 1270 high schools taken over from Calcutta University which later increased to 2312 in the year 1963 and 8000 by the end of 1975.  At present, there are around 10238 schools which run under the West Bengal Board of Secondary Education council.

The WBBSE class 10 examination which is also known as the Madhyamik Pariksha or secondary examination is conducted annually and at the same time in the state of Bengal and also in the West Bengal affiliated schools located outside the state.

Each year, almost 10, 50,000 examinees take the Madhyamik examination.

Some of the silent features of the board are:

  • To act as an advisory organ to state government for the growth and advancement of the secondary education.

  • To help take necessary actions in recognizing new schools

  • To frame curricula and syllabi as per the latest trend

  • To conduct the secondary and higher secondary examination timely

West Bengal Board Madhyamik Pariksha Important Dates

The West Bengal Board of Secondary Education will conduct its Madhyamik Pariksha in the last week of February or the first week of March 2015. The WBBSE has published the West Bengal class 10 examinations 2015 in its official website.

The West Bengal Board Madhyamik Pariksha timetable is as under:

West Bengal Board Madhyamik Pariksha Syllabus

The Madhyamik or the class 10 examinations are based on the syllabus of class 10. The curriculum consists of two language papers, three compulsory subjects and three additional subjects with many options to choose from:

The first languages are Bengali, English, Guajarati, Hindi, Modern Tibetan, Nepal, Odia, Gurumukhi (Punjabi), Telugu, Tamil, Urdu & Santali.

2nd Language: English (Bengali or Nepali if English is 1st Language)

Compulsory Subjects are Mathematics, Life Science & Physical Science
