square both the equations and add.
you will get
a^2 + b^2 = 3^2 + 4^2
hence a^2 + b^2 = 25

(acos theta + bsin theta)2=42.....(1)
(asin theta + bcos theta)2=32.........(2)
adding (1) & (2)
We get,
a2(sin2theta + cos2theta) + b2(sin2theta +cos2theta)+2sin theta. Cos theta - 2sin theta. Cos theta=42+32 ;
Answer is 42+32
