Kindly help me with this. The answer in the textbook is a = 4 and I do not know how to solve the first question.

As we know that roots are 5 and -5 and parabola is downward
 
Hence
 
f(x) = - (x-5) (x+5)
 
Now we are given point (3,a) means x = 3
 
Hence
a = - (8) (-2) = 16
