the above ans is wrong. correct method:
2C – S= 1/sqrt2
let 2S+C= k, where C= cosx and S= sinx
squaring and adding 
4C^2+S^2 – 4CS + 4S^2+C^2+4SC= ½ + k^2
5(S^2+C^2) – ½ = k^2
k^2= 9/2
or k= ± 3/sqrt2
