Why Rutherford used alpha particle and gold foil in his experiment

The reason why rutherford use alpha particle for the experiment 
1- they are heavily and positively charged . 
2- they donot have any electron 
3- as like charges will repel , the same way , these particle also repel and scattered . 
4- they are radioactive 
5- they have high ionising power . 
REASON TO CHOOSE GOLD FOIL 
beacuse he is in search of some metals which can produce scintillations when alpha particle will be bombard and strike into it . 
and by gold , he can make the foil so thick that he will be able to stusy the property .

Alpha particles are +ve charged so he thought they will be attracted by -ve charged electrons in the atom.
Also alpha particles are heavy mass 4u and are fast moving hence have considerable energy to penetrate through gold foil or matter
