Due its internal structures. Thang angle subtentend by its internal surfaces causes to have its flat surfaces.
Hence the main reason is due to the arrangemnegt of the atoms and molecules into the crystalline solid.
And these atoms are none but the re-arangement of Carbon atoms itself.
