why can we not get calcium from electrolysis

Calcium is prepared on a commercial scale by the electrolysis of calcium chloride, CaCl₂.

At the cathode:

Ca²⁺(l) + 2e^– ® Ca

At the anode:

Cl^– (l) ® ½ Cl­₂(g) + e^–

Other methods of calcium production:

1. Using Calcium chloride( a byproduct) in Solway process.
2. For small scale production, reduction of CaO with aluminium or CaCl₂ with sodium metal can be used.
