question mark

While applying POAC in mole concept problem sometimes i get wrong answers. So i wanted to know how to identify that whether a question can be solved by POAC or not?

POAC is the abbreviation used for Principle of Atom Conservation. It is very useful technique to solve the problems of 'chemical equations' quickly & accurately too,especially in competitions it gives you an edge over others.
Now following two points are worth noting about it:-
  • Balancing is not required, if we use POAC .
  • POAC can be used for  those atoms which are conserved in a chemical reaction.
I am giving an example for you,so that you can understand clearly about using POAC.
           KClO3=KCl + O2
Now,applying the POAC for K atoms.
A/c to POAC,

      Moles of K  in KClO3(reactant)=           Moles of K in KCl(product)
In other form,we can write it as

     Wt.of KClO3/mol.wt.of KClO3=              wt.of KCl /mol.wt.ofKCl.

Please note that ,the text which I have put b/w the lines-are the steps you can remember easily.
Now,you can find out any of the four quantities, if others are known & you don't have to be bother about balancing the more complex reaction.
I hope now that you have developed the basic idea of 'how to apply POAC ' in chemical reactions.
Now,
You should practice the questions of mole concept for better understanding.
