Sulphuric acid, nitric acid and hydrochloric acid are strong acids as in aqueous solution each of these essentially ionizes 100% into their respective ions. In contrast, a weak acid only partially dissociates e.g. acetic acid. In water one mole of strong acid, HA dissolves yielding one mole of proton or hydrogen ion and one mole of the conjugate base as follows,
HA> H++A-
A weak acid like acetic acid in water partially dissociates. At equilibrium, both the acid and the conjugate base are present in solution.
