Torsional strain or eclipsing strain is the increase in potential energy of a molecule due to repulsion between electrons in bonds that do not share an atom.
there is a diffrence in energy in the most stable as well as least stable conformations when considering rotation around a bond .
it is the energy barrier which needs to be overcome for one full rotation around a bond .
thatswhat is called as energy barrier of rotation , if less energy that that , then it will not rotate ,
