what is the difference between shell,sub-shell and an orbital? orbital is the region of max probability of finding an electron,and what are shells then? please explain!

yes , you are correct with the defination of orbitals . 
shell , is a group of atomic orbitals with the same value of principal quantum number (n) 
electron shell make up the electronic config of atoms . 
and subshell = a group of orbitals with perticular properties like shape and angular momentum 
these are lebelled as s,p,d,f 
when electron share same n,l,m , they are said to be in same orbital .
