Dear Dinesh

n-factor depends on the type of reaction involved and so we shouid remember that it is not a constant number for a given species.
It may vary for different type of reactions.

3 C + 4 HNO3→ 3 CO2+ 4 NO + 2 H2OChange in oxidation state of the N atom is 3 for one molecule of HNO3 and since O have same oxidation number in both the sides, n-factor=3Similarly, for this reaction the n-factor for the C atom is 4 as the change in oxidation number of one C atomis 4
