A homologous series is a group of organic compounds having similar structure and similar chemical properties in which the successive compound differs by CH2 group
For example:
Following are the first five memebers of homologus series”Alkane”
Methane: CH4
Ethane: CH3CH3
Propane: CH3CH2CH3
Butabe: CH3CH2CH2CH3
Pentane: CH3CH2CH2CH2CH3
Hexane: CH3CH2CH2CH2CH2CH3
