Schottky defect is a type of point defect observed in a crystal. If in an ionic crystal of A positive B negative type,an equal number of cations and anions are missing from their lattice sites so that the electrical neutrality as well as stoichiometry is maintained,it is called a Schottky defect.
It occurs due to difference in size of cations and anions.
Density of such a crystal decreases.
