The root mean square speed of the molecules of a diatomic gas is u. When the temperature is doubled, the molecules dissociate into atoms. The new rms speed of the atom is :(A) 2u (B) 8u (C) 2u (D) 4u

V(rms)=(3RT/M)^1/2 , for a molecule, u=(3RT /2M)^1/2........ (i),for each atom,after temperature becomes 2T, new u`=(3R2T/M)^1/2..........(ii), divide equation (ii) /(i) and answer comes out to be u`=2u
