Assuming that the solution is acidic and contains an oxidizing agent such as KMnO4, the oxalic acid gets oxidized to CO2 in a redox reaction. Oxidation number of H2C2O4, x can be given by 2+2x+(4*-2)=0, i.e. x=+6. O.N. of CO2, y=0+4 =+4, 2y=+8. Thus, n-factor of H2C2O4 is 8-6 = 2.
