Yes the structure of chromosomes is a physical composition 
changes in physical parameters (such as nuclear size) during development may impact transcription and other reactions occurring on chromosomes. In fact, a decrease in nuclear size can lead to reorganization of interphase chromosomes and heterochromatin.
