Relative atomic mass or atomic weight is a dimensionless physical quantity defined as the ratio of the average mass of atoms of a chemical element in a given sample to the atomic mass constant. a.m.u = 1/12th the mass of c12 carbon isotope.   in old version Relative atomic mass = mass of an atom/ mass of H isotope . now it is defined as the mass of atom/ amu of mass . relative atomic mass has no unit . relative mass is not same as atomic weight. atomic weight= average atomic mass= summation% Mx/100= X1M1+X2 M2 +.................. . WHERE % Is the percentage of abundance of given isotope. Mx= relative mass of isotope. X = fraction of abundance
