Confirmatory test for chloride A few ml of water extract is acidified with dil.nitric acid boiled for some time and then cooled and silver nitrate solution is added.Observation:A white precipitate is appeared which is soluble in ammonium hydroxide.Inference:Presence of chloride radical is confirmed.Confirmatory test for ammoniun ion:A pinch of salt is added to distilled water in a test tube.To that few drops of Nesselers reagent is added.Observation:A chocolate brown precipitate is appeared.Inference:Presence of ammonium radical is confirmed.
