The rate constant of first order reaction is given by
k=2.303/t(initial con/final conc)
here the reaction is
tert butoxide------2acetone + ethane
Since the volume is constant at constant temp,the partial pressure is proportioal to mole
Let the initial pressure be p1
and the final pressure of tert butoxide=p1-x
partial pressure of acetone=2x and methane=x
Thus the total pressure in the mixture is p1 +2x=P
x=(P-p1)/2
Thus the final pressure of di tertbutoxide=p1-x=p1-(P-p1)/2
we have rate constant=k=2.303/tlog(p1/p1-(P-p1/2))
thus the answer follows,k=2.303/tlog(2p1/3p1-P)
