HF compound is polar covalent in nature. In aqueos medium it behaves as ionic compound and this is due to the fact that the electronegativity of flourine is greater than hydrogen ( F= 3.98 ,H =2.2 ). This electro negativity difference causes the shared pair of electrons to sustain near the flourine atom . this induces polarity in H – F bond . whereas in aqueos medium even a small amount of hydration enthalpy is sufficient to break this polar covalent bond and it forms ions and due to this it seems to be ionic in nature . but in reality it is a polar covalent bond .
