iron is extracted from hematite(Fe2O3) ore.It is carried out inthree steps:-
(1)concentration-the ore is concentrated by removing impurities like soil etc. The
process involves the crushing and washing of ore.
(2)calcination or roasting-roasting is performed to remove moisture, CO2, impurities of sulphur, arsenic
(3)reduction of ore-process of reduction is carried out in blast furnace
the caobon monooxide formed in the blast furnace is reacted with Fe2O3 to form iron
Fe2O3+CO------2Fe+CO2
The liquid iron runs downward and is collected to the bottom
