The d-block elements in the periodic table are called as transition elements. In the d-block,electrons are added to the penultimate shell, expanding it from 8 to 18 electrons. On the other hand in s- and p- block ,electrons are added to the outer shell of the atom,i.e in s- block the electron goes in outermost s- subshell and in p- it enters in p-subshell.In this way their configuration differs from non-transition elements.
