The salts made up of weak acid or weaak base or both when dissocated partially, then its conjugate further reacts with water and this process is called hydrolysis.
For example, let a salt made up of weak acid(CH3COOH) and strong base(NaOH)
AB..<.........> B-..........+......A+
….(CH3COONa)<.........>CH3COO-.+....Na+
B-....+H2O<,...........>.BH …..+..........OH-
For this equilibrium(bold), the equilibrium constant Kh=[BH][OH-]/[B-]
is called hydrolysis constant.
