Calcium burns quite vigorously in oxygen and strong heating is required to make it burn. It gives abrick redflame to produce awhite powderof calcium oxide.
Calcium + oxygen —> calcium oxide
2Ca(s) + O2(g) —> 2CaO(s)

Calcium + Hydrogen —> calcium hydride
Ca(s) + H2(g) —> CaH2(s)
(Grey coloured)

Calcium + nitrogen —> calcium nitride
3 Ca + N2→ Ca3N2(Red Brown solid formed)
