In Acidic medium Fe +2H+ → Fe+2 is a spontaneous reaction, whereas in the highly basic medium the Fe(OH)2 is formed which passivates the corrosion.

In acidic medium,as we know thatFe+2H=Fe+2 is a spontanious reaction.In basic medium,Fe( OH)2 is formed which enhance the corrosion.
