the molar mass of Iron is 56g/mol. That means 100gm iron has 1.785714 moles of iron. The formula of rust is Fe2O3, so 4Fe+3O2=2Fe2O3. 4 moles of Fe gives 2 moles of rust, so 1.785714 moles of Fe gives 0.892857 moles of rust. The molar mass of rust is 56+56+16+16+16=160. 892.857*160=142.857g or 142.86g.
