Hydrogen peroxide acts as a bleaching agent due to the release of nascent oxygen :H2O2—> H2O+OThe nascent oxygen combines with colouring matter which in turn gets oxidised. Thus the bleaching action of H2O2 is due to the oxidation of colouring matter by nascent oxygen. It is used for bleaching material like ivory, Silk, wool, feather.
