Hydrogen peroxide acts as a bleaching agent because it is a strong oxidizing nature
When added to a cloth, it breaks the chemical bonds of the chromophores (colour producing agents). Hence, the visible light is not absorbed and the cloth gets whitened.

Hydrogen peroxide acts as a bleaching agent due to the release of nascent oxygen :H2O2—> H2O+OThe nascent oxygen combines with colouring matter which in turn gets oxidised. Thus the bleaching action of H2O2 is due to the oxidation of colouring matter by nascent oxygen. It is used for bleaching material like ivory, Silk,wool, feather.
