How does a oxidation reaction involves gain of Electronegative Element and loss of Electropositive Element?

The addition of oxygen or removal of hydrogen is called oxidation. and removal of h2 electropositive element means (elements losing electrons ) like metals but hydrogen is non metal. but it lose electrons . when oxygen is added or Hydrogen removed gaining of electrons takes place also.
