In order to explain the geometry of O2.
First of all count how many electron 'regions' are present around each atom of O2 molecule. A region represents either a bond or a lone pair. In O2 there are a total of 3 regions around each O atom i.e. two lone pairs and a bond pair.
Now use following table to calculate hybridization and geometry
Region 2 3 4 5
Hybridization sp sp2 sp3 dsp3
Shape linear triangular tetrahedral trigonal bipyramidal
Thanks & Regards
