hi
suppose an electron falls from outer orbil n2 to inner orbin n1 or vise vesa
then number of spectral lines  absorbed or emmit = (n2-n1) (n2-n1+1)/2

Hi Case1:- if only one atom is present, thenNo.of spectral lines = n2 - n1Case:-if large no. of atoms are present then,no. Of spectral lines =( (n2-n1)(n2-n1+1))/2.
