Explain why the molecular mass of NaCl determined by the elevation of boiling point method is half its actual molecular mass.

the van’t hoff factor (i) is equal to observed colligative property÷theoretical colligative property so if we take no of moles then we can see that no. of moles is inversely proportional to molecular mass so the van’t hoff factor (i) in terms of molar mass becomes theoretical moleculaar mass÷observed molar mass and as we know \alpha=100% for NaCl so it’s i becomes 2 ( from the fomula i=1+(n-1)\alpha ) and so the observed molar mass becomes theoretical molar mass ÷ 2
