roasting is the process of converting an ores into oxide by strongly heating it in the presence of excess of air . .
for example sulphides ores are converted into their respective oxide by heating in the presence of air . 
below are the reaction 
Zn + 3 o2 = 2Zno + 2So2 
and sometimes photochemical reaction in the lower atmosphere result in roasting by forming photochemical smog .
