oxidation of ferrous ion is given by
Fe+2 ----->Fe+3 +e-
Substance having lower reduction potential in standard electrode potential will oxidise ferrous ion to ferric ion.Thus strong oxidising agent like copper,silver and fluorine,chlorine etc can oxidise Fe+2 to Fe+3 respectively
