Can 1s and 2s orbitals on adjacent atoms form a sigma bond?

Yes.That’s the only kind of bond s orbitals can form. And valence s orbitals from different shells (on different atoms) do it all the time:1s hydrogen with 2s carbon2s carbon with 3s sulfur3s silicon with 2s oxygenand so on, and so on.
