a certain dye absorbs light of certain wavelength and then fluorescence light of wavelength 5,000 A° assuming that under given conditions 50% of the absorbed energy is reemitted out as Fluorescence and the ratio of number of quanta emitted out to the number of quanta absorbed is 5 ratio 8 find the wavelength of absorbed light

Dear student,

Let the absorbed wavelength be\lambda. Hence incident energy=n_1\dfrac{hc}{\lambda}
wheren_1is the number of quanta absorbed.

The emitted energy isn_2\dfrac{hc}{\lambda'}
It is given that\dfrac{n_2}{n_1}=\dfrac{5}{8}
Also the emitted energy is 50% of that absorved.
Hence\dfrac{1}{2}\times n_1\dfrac{hc}{\lambda}=n_2\dfrac{hc}{\lambda'}
\implies \lambda=\dfrac{4}{5}\lambda'=4000A^{\circ}
