As CN- is thepolyatomic its config. would be given from the Molecular Orbital Theory.
Hence total electrons it has => 6 + 7 + 1 =>14 electrons to be filled.
Hence electronic config. is:
1sigmas2 then 1sigm*s2 then 2sigmas2 then 2sigma*s2 then 2px2 = 2pz2 sigma*s2
here * denotes the filling of the anti-ornitals.
