In its emission spectrum 3 spectra lines are possible.  4 to 3, 4 to 2, 4 to 1.

There is a formula for this i.e 

 

[ (n2-n1+1)(n2-n1) / 2 ] So if acc. to your question n1=1 and n2=4 then the answer is 6
